As part of its off-site series of events, ART2102 is pleased to present Publish and Be Damned. Surveying an abundance of independent publications, Publish and Be Damned demonstrates individual approaches to making and distributing the work of artists, writers, and musicians outside the commercial mainstream through fairs, a touring archive, and special projects. Publish and Be Damned illustrates a cross-section of self-published artists’ projects produced independently of institutions and galleries and with little or no backing other than the hard work and commitment of the artists themselves. The publications range from magazines, pamphlets, videos, posters, fanzines, and other ephemera.

In the context of LACMA’s project Eat the Market, ART2102 introduces the Publish and Be Damned Public Library, an itinerant archive with a core of more than 150 titles. The selection changes at each new venue as local publications and materials are added to the display.

Initiated in 2004 by Kit Hammonds and Emily Pethick, Publish and Be Damned continues with the input of Sarah McCrory. Eat the Market is curated by Sam Durant.
